I originally found Swan by accident on myspace and quite pleasantly discovered that they produce good solid, down to earth rock.  Swan brings nothing new [when compared to other bands in the genre], but the songs are quite catchy and stay your head. All in all, they’re great to listen to, and not just while cruising in the car.

Radio Paranoid happily received a promo version of their debut CD. I was quite happy with it and can’t say anything bad about the technical skills nor the singing.

With the opening track “The One”, the CD drives into full heavy rock right away. The hard guitar-riffs harmonize with lead singer Murray Atkinson’s striking voice quite appropriately and stylistically. The music rocks from the first second and continues with edgy hard basses in “El Camino”.

The listener gets no break to breathe until the third piece “Untitled” which is almost a forced [and positively welcome] 40-second pause that then connects directly into the next song “Give up the Ghost” – a more poppy tune compared the first two pieces that culminates to the semi-ballad “Unfamiliar”.

Following in “Fortune”, the band slowly builds up harder guitar-riffs to resume full rock speed in “Behind Closed Doors”.

Listening to “Sterilized” you first feel irritated as you might think it’s a ballad which then – using well distributed riffs – slaps you into rock mode again in a style reminiscent of Soundgarden.

With “Blind” the listener gets another [intensity] break before “Symptomatic Song” takes you back to the roots of rock, I would even say to the roots of grunge.

The whole package is rounded up quietly with “Make You Mine” which turns outs as very catchy pop-rock piece.

Swan’s debut CD delivers a very rounded album that makes it very clear from the beginning that they fit into more than just one genre. From hard rock to grunge to pop rock they rule the genres in an ear-pleasing way.

Radio Paranoid gives Swan’s Salt March 8 out of 10 Bears.

Die Band "lief" mir quasi bei MySpace über den Weg.

Die Band macht guten, bodenständigen Rock. Nichts neues zwar, dafür aber durchaus eingängig und auch außerhalb des Autos mehr als hörbar.

Radio Paranoid scheute keine Mühen und bekam bereits vorab eine Promo-Version der Debut-CD.

Ich war durchweg zufrieden und hatte weder musikalisch noch gesangstechnisch etwas auszusetzen.

Das Intro "The One" schlägt erstmal volle Kelle rein. Harte Gitarren-Riffs treffen auf eine stilistisch passende und die Töne treffende Gesangsstimme. Das Stück rockt von der ersten Sekunde an.

Mit harter Base gehts dann weiter in "El Camino". Der Hörer bekommt keine Pause zum durchatmen, bis mit dem "Untitled" benannten dritten Stück quasi eine 40 Sekündige "Pause" zwangsauferlegt wird, die direkt in das Stück "Give up the Ghost" übergeht, das im Vergleich zu den beien ersten Stücken deutlich popiger ist um dann in der Halbballade "Unfimiliar" zu gipfeln.

Danach werden langsam wieder härtere Gitarrenriffs aufgebaut in "Fortune" um anschließend in "Behind Closed Doors" wieder volle Fahrt aufzunehmen.

Zu Beginn von "Sterilized" ist man zu Beginn etwas irritiert, wähnt man bereits wieder eine Ballade, wird dann durch gut verteilte Riffs aber schnell wieder zum Rocken gebracht in einem, an Soundgarden erinnernden Stil.

Danach darf der Hörer sich mit "Blind" erstmal wieder ein wenig ausruhen bis er mit dem vorletzten Song "Symptomatic Song" sofort wieder auf den Boden des Rock, ja ich möchte sogar sagen des Grunge zurückgeholt wird.

Das ganze Paket wird durch den den ruhig beginnenden Song "Make you mine" abgeschlossen, der schließlich in einem fast schon ohrwurmigen Pop-Rock endet.

Swan haben mit dieser CD ein sehr rundes Debut abgeliefert, das von Anfang an klarmacht, dass sie in mehr als nur eine musikalische Schublade passen. Von Hard Rock / Grunge bis Pop-Rock beherrschen sie die Genres auf eine dem Rock-Ohr schmeichelnde Art und Weise.

Insegsamt gebe ich der CD 8 von 10 Bears.
